Matt Renzi, Dave Ambrosio and Russ Meissner have been performing, lecturing and recording together as a trio since 1998.  The three met on various bandstands and through multiple performance engagements across New York City during a particularly vibrant period of improvised music in New York.  They eventually joined forces to create the Brooklyn based, Matt Renzi Trio.  The group has toured Europe, Japan, Israel and the U.S. numerous times.  They have recorded four CD’s for labels such as Fresh Sound New Talent (Barcelona, Spain), TOAP (Lisbon, Portugal) and Three P’s Records (Brooklyn, NY).

The band repertoire  consists of tenor saxophonist /clarinetist Renzi's original compositions which are rooted in the jazz tradition with influences of contemporary classical and Indian music."
It is a music that might be classified as "free," but is consistently beautiful and always approachable, from a trio that has crafted a remarkably symbiotic sound." (Dan McClenaghan, All About Jazz
