GENERAL QUESTIONS

How much do you charge for lessons?

Monthly lessons are priced at $130.00 per month. This comes out to $30.00 per half hour lesson, as some months have 4 and others have 5 lesson days (there are 4.34 lesson days in a month, to be exact).

Can I start lessons at any time?

Yes. Our lessons are on going and you are welcome to start any time.

Can I see the facilities first?

We will be happy to show you around. Just call us at (707)-647-3050 and we will arrange for a visit and free consultation.

What ages to start lessons?

We welcome very young beginners. As a matter of fact, research has shown many benefits from engaging children in musical activities from early on. That said, private one-on-one lessons may not be the best course of action for a child younger than five or six. We will invite you and your child in to test your child's ability to follow simple directions, focus on a task at a time and the like. If we feel that your child will benefit form one-on-one private lessons, we will be thrilled to work with you. However, some kids have greater benefits from group lessons - this says nothing about their musical (or other) abilities, it is just a testament to the ways they learn best at their particular age. Our 'Little Muffin' music classes are tailored to a very young age group. A lot of fun for the little ones, Little Muffin Music provides a great foundation for continuing any kind of musical activity. Some young students take Little Muffin Music parallel to one-on-one lessons (in piano, violin, or singing, for example). For further information, read this article in our article section.

Can I come and observe my child's lesson or class?

You are welcome to come and sit in any time.

Is there a waiting area?

Yes, you are welcome to enjoy our waiting room, stocked with educational music magazines, toys for little siblings and wireless internet.

How do I know what instrument my child REALLY wants to learn?

We have several options to help you with this. 'Rock Band for starters', for example, is a wonderful introduction into the world of rock band instruments (guitar, drums, vocals, piano/keys, bass). The kids get to try out each instrument at least twice and then get exposure to two instruments in more detail. After this eight week program they have more of an idea what they are drawn to. Our drum teacher starts kids out on a (low cost) rubber practice pad. Once the child has demonstrated he or she does well with it, (s)he will 'graduate' to the drum kit. For kids interested in classical music, we recommend to take a month of lessons without having the instrument at hand. Your child is welcome to use our guitars and pianos during the lessons. Small violins can be rented at a low fee (we can refer you to good rental places).

ROCK CLASSES

Can I observe a Rock class before signing up?

Give us a call and we will arrange for your visit.

Can I observe my child's Rock Class?

Yes, you are very welcome to. However, once it gets closer to the final concert, we like to not 'give it away', so please come prior to week six.

Rock Classes, one-on-ones or both?

Best is both. In the one-on-one lessons the child learns what can be applied in the band context. Many schools make taking one-on-one lessons a pre-requesit for attending band classes, and there are good reasons for that. We offer discounts and packages for our private students who attend a group class at the same time. You may find this article in our article section interesting.

Do you offer different levels?

Yes, we offer a starters class for beginners, and classes for intermediate levels. More here.

ADULT STUDENTS

Do you take adult beginners?

Yes! Come on in. We have a lot of experience with adults returning to the instrument or picking one up for the first time. We sympathize with the unique challenges adult learners face and are happy to help explore the music you most enjoy.

I was told that I am tone deaf. Am I hopeless?

Not at all. If a student is unsuccessful for any reason, it is not fair of the teacher to blame the student. It is the teacher's responsibility to find the way the student learns best or to state that the teacher is not a good fit for the student. Our teachers are handpicked to understand this notion and we thrive to match our students optimally so that the student as well as the teacher have a great lesson experience. Music is a natural phenomenon. With a patient, experienced as well as intuitive teacher at one's side, every body has the innate ability to express oneself musically and enjoy it.

Am I too old to start?

No. Our students range in age form 2 to over 70 years old. Wherever you are on your musical journey, we will support you in what you would like to achieve. Making music is a healthy and fun activity at any age.

What do you have to offer advanced players?

We offer advanced lessons in Classical Piano, Jazz piano, Electric Bass, Drums, Electric and Acoustic Guitar. We also offer advice on motivational issues or music business related matters as well as freeing yourself from creative blocks, . Maybe you are a great reader but do not know how to improvise. Or you are an ear player and would like to add reading skills to your arsenal to get more gigs. Maybe you wonder how knowing theory can enhance your playing or you'd like to learn more different styles. Your teacher will evaluate where you are at and what your goals are.

I want to go pro/get more gigs. Can you help?

Yes. Let's start with what you are already good in and expand from there. The main question is, are you a well rounded player or good at just 'one thing'? Knowing music theory, reading, a variety of styles, better technique and timing are all things that will get you more gigs, live or in the studio.

Do you offer only 30 minute lessons?

We have found that 30 minutes make the most sense for beginners and children. Adults and more advanced students benefit from longer lessons, generally 60 minutes.

Do you offer classes for adults?

We frequently invite famous musicians and educators to hold clinics and seminars. We also have jam classes in the making. Please sign up for our newsletter to get the information.

We don't have an instrument yet!

For the first few lessons you are welcome to use our instruments. Students will get assignments, however, and after a few weeks they will need access to an instrument of their own, so that they can practice as well as be able to make a connection with an instrument of their own. Decent beginner instruments (including drums) can be purchased around 300.00, including amplifiers. We will be happy to advise.
